Day 1: Frankfurt to Baden-Baden

In the morning you'll travel to the city of Baden-Baden, the former summer residence of European aristocrats and world famous for its elegant spa resort. Another attraction is the casino, at the entrance of the Black Forest. Visit the city and surrounding region.

Hotel: Hotel am Sophienpark (4 Star Rating)

This upscale hotel on 0.4-hectare grounds is a 5-minute walk from Museum Frieder Burda's modern art and 11 minutes’ from the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden opera house.

Understated rooms come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and desks. Some have balconies overlooking the garden. Suites add sitting areas; some also feature pull-out sofas and kitchenettes. Apartments add separate living rooms. Air-conditioning is not available.

Today you'll travel deeper into the Black Forest. In the afternoon you'll return to Baden-Baden where you have free time to enjoy the city's hot springs or try your luck at the casino.

After breakfast you'll travel towards the southern part of the Black Forest, taking the high route through the Black Forest. Stop at Vogtsbauernhof; this open-air museum gives a great overview of the way of life in this region. Then you'll arrive at Titisee, the glacial lake nestled in the heart of the Black Forest. You'll make a brief stop at Hofgut Sternen to learn more about the fascinating world of cuckoo clocks.

In the afternoon you continue to Freiburg. You will then have a sightseeing tour of the city.
