Rwanda’s capital rises gently across rolling hills under an expansive African sky. The city’s skyline mixes modern architecture with vibrant markets, while tree-lined streets and colorful bougainvillea create a welcoming atmosphere that blends tradition and progress amid a dynamic urban landscape.

A city tour of Kigali includes a visit to the memorial dedicated to the victims of the 1994 genocide, a site that offers a deeply moving and reflective experience. Following a brief stop for refreshments and an overview of the journey ahead, continue to your safari lodge bordering Volcanoes National Park.

Made famous by Dian Fossey, Volcanoes National Park protects the Rwandan side of the Virunga Mountains, a dramatic range of extinct and active volcanoes that shelter some of the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas. As you begin your trek, pass through farmland, bamboo groves and lush rainforest to spend an awe-inspiring hour observing the creatures’ daily routines — feeding, playing, resting and nurturing their young. The afternoon brings a scenic drive to the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera, framed by the towering peaks of the Virunga Volcanoes.

Another day in Volcanoes National Park offers the opportunity to encounter a different family of mountain gorillas, uncovering new insights and perspectives.

Fly to the fabled Serengeti, a land of endless plains and golden light, where life unfolds across one of the world’s most iconic landscapes. Home to one of the largest concentrations of wildlife on the planet, the Serengeti hosts the awe-inspiring Great Migration, when vast herds of wildebeest and zebras follow seasonal rains in search of fresh grass. Your mobile camp offers front-row views of this singular spectacle.

Spend the next two days exploring the vast expanse of the Serengeti, where plains stretch to the horizon and rivers weave through a landscape teeming with life. Morning and afternoon game drives offer prime opportunities to witness Africa’s iconic species, including lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards and rhinos.

With each outing, the landscape reveals something new — perhaps a cheetah in pursuit of gazelles or a herd of elephants crossing a sunlit river. Your skilled driver-guide navigates the terrain with expertise for immersive encounters in the heart of the wilderness.

Lake Manyara lies just a short flight away, followed by a scenic drive to a lodge perched on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. Surrounded by dormant volcanic hills and Maasai farmland, it overlooks the crater floor — a 2,000-foot-deep caldera carved by ancient geological forces.

Descend into Ngorongoro Crater, a vast, extinct volcano whose steep walls form a natural enclosure for one of the richest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. The crater floor hosts plains dotted with wildebeest, zebra, buffalo and gazelle, while the forests shelter waterbuck, bushbuck and eland. A healthy elephant population roams throughout, alongside rare black rhinos, lions, leopards, hippos and seasonal flocks of vibrant flamingos.

Venture into Tarangire National Park, a vast landscape known for its striking views of the Maasai Steppe and the towering mountains to the south. Known for its large elephant herds, the park also draws wildlife from across the region, particularly between July and October when the elephants migrate in search of water.
